At Morgui Instruments we are very pleased to have been able to contribute to the expansion of their facilities with new HVAC measurement and control equipment, helping to improve the well-being of patients, families and staff.

HVAC Automation in Sant Joan de Déu Hospital
One of the most important highly specialised paediatric centres in Europe.
It is a hospital dedicated to the comprehensive care of women, children and adolescents. Through the San Juan de Dios Foundation, they conduct research to find new and better treatments for paediatric diseases. As a university hospital, they contribute to the training of healthcare professionals together with the University of Barcelona. Their aim is to encourage and promote the training of their professionals to improve the health of their patients, society and to advance scientific and human knowledge.
The Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Hospital is a privately owned, non-profit institution with a public service vocation since its creation in 1867. In 2017, the centre celebrated its 150th anniversary, a long journey from its original premises on Muntaner Street in Barcelona, when it became the first children’s hospital in Spain.
One of the main milestones in its history was becoming a publicly contracted centre with the public administration in 1973. In 1991, the Government of Catalonia created the Catalan Health Service (CatSalut), an entity that “guarantees public, comprehensive and quality healthcare coverage for all citizens of Catalonia” as a “public insurer”, offering a series of specific services. The Sant Joan de Déu Hospital provides the healthcare services contracted with CatSalut.

The TRC controllers have been designed to control room HVAC and feature a modern 3.5” colour touch screen interface.
Through two engineering firms, we have supplied TRC model zone controllers from the Finnish brand Produal. These units have up to two stages of heating and cooling temperature control, fan speed control, optional humidity control and CO₂ level control. They may also include lighting and blind control. These devices offer precise PI energy-saving control and a 3.5” colour touch screen with an intuitive interface.
It should be highlighted that TRC devices control the temperature and humidity of all these spaces even if the BMS system fails. In addition, they are customisable in colours and logo.
The devices are available with Modbus RTU and BACnet MS/TP communication. Their configuration is quick and simple thanks to the MyProdual mobile app.
The TRC controllers have been installed to control the HVAC in rooms, waiting areas, operating theatres, nursing and pharmacy rooms, or in neonatal ICUs.

TRI units, with aesthetics very similar to the TRC ones, were installed to measure temperature and humidity and to adjust control parameters such as the setpoint, fan speed, operating mode, and to activate or deactivate lights and air-conditioning units. These room transmitters are also linked to the BMS system and, in this specific case, they allow the comfort of the multipurpose playroom to be controlled.
Regarding the sensors, there are various models that measure humidity, temperature and also air quality (CO₂ and VOC). Their integration with the BMS ensures comfort in the building, avoiding cold or heat issues and preventing excess humidity in the environment. It also allows ventilation and air renewal to be controlled and activated when necessary. Some of these sensors were installed in the cafeteria, waiting areas or connecting corridors between buildings.
