How to Achieve ±0.3 °C Accuracy Between 20 and 25 °C

RTX and RTX-D, Produal's high-precision room transmitters

It is increasingly common to find heating systems operating beyond what is actually required due to inaccurate temperature readings. Most conventional thermostats are unable to detect when measurements are being distorted by direct air drafts, resulting in higher energy consumption and an increased carbon footprint for buildings.

More than a year ago, Produal introduced its RTX room transmitters to the market, followed by the RTX-D display version at the end of 2025. Both products received an innovation and energy efficiency award at the MCE exhibition in Milan thanks to their advanced environmental measurement technology.

Key Features Behind the Award:

-Customizable touchscreen display. A 2.8” interface providing real-time data on temperature, humidity, CO₂, VOCs and occupancy.

-High accuracy. Incorporates a patented temperature compensation system and an Installation Quality Score (IQS).

-Sustainability. Meets demanding building certification requirements such as LEED, BREEAM, WELL and RESET.

-Connectivity. Full support through the MyProdual App, allowing configuration management, backup and sharing for faster commissioning and troubleshooting without removing the device.

In this article, we will focus on measurement accuracy and explain why this new environmental sensing technology represents a major breakthrough.

We achieve a precision of ± 0.3 °C between 20 and 25 °C.

Until now, the best achievable accuracy for room temperature transmitters was typically ±0.5 °C at 25 °C. Today, a highly configurable transmitter featuring control functions and Modbus/BACnet communication can achieve an accuracy of ±0.3 °C between 20 and 25 °C.

Accurate temperature measurement is essential for heating, cooling and ventilation control. The accuracy of a room transmitter depends significantly on its installation location. Airflow inside the transmitter enclosure can carry heat from electronic components toward the sensing elements, creating measurement errors. These errors are directly related to the amount of airflow passing through the device.

Several factors can increase internal airflow, including drafts from junction boxes, windows, doors or ventilation systems, as well as warm air generated by heaters, televisions or other electrical equipment.

Installers can minimize measurement errors by selecting locations where little or no airflow passes through the transmitter. The Installation Quality Score (IQS) helps verify that the selected installation point is suitable for accurate temperature measurement. Through Modbus/BACnet communication, IQS also enables real-time monitoring of environmental changes via the Building Management System (BMS).

The calculated IQS value is proportional to the airflow measured inside the device. Airflow is measured and calculated using a patented temperature compensation method. The IQS reference point is a laboratory installation. The score ranges from 4 to 1. An IQS value of 4 indicates an ideal installation location, where temperature measurement accuracy remains within the limits specified in the technical documentation.

Even when the IQS value is lower, the transmitter may still provide accurate readings, although measurement stability and repeatability may be reduced.

ProTemp™ technology ensures accurate measurement and energy savings.

At the heart of this innovation lies Produal ProTemp™, a patented HVAC measurement technology designed to:

-Intelligently filter airflow.

-Distinguish real environmental fluctuations.

-Prevent pressure-related measurement errors.

-Thermally stabilize temperature readings.

The result is maximum occupant comfort delivered in a highly sustainable way. These capabilities make RTX and RTX-D ideal solutions for automation projects in hotels, hospitals, offices, schools and cleanrooms.

Understanding the true temperature and identifying poor installation conditions creates an opportunity to improve both system performance and energy efficiency. This combination of accuracy and installation awareness makes RTX and RTX-D highly reliable solutions for meeting the requirements of the most demanding building standards and certifications, including LEED (ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2022), BREEAM, RESET Grade B and WELL Building Standard® (WELL v2™).
